Jesus Christ – how can people be so fucking stupid?

From the NYTimes, “Victory Alone Does Not a Mandate Make”:

In a Pew poll from December, 70 percent of voters said they saw the federal deficit as a major problem that needed to be addressed now — a powerful show of support for the Tea Party argument. But sizable majorities of voters were against, say, revoking the home interest mortgage deduction, or adding any new taxes, or raising the Social Security retirement age, or scaling back federal financing for education or road building.

You know what? I don’t hate America – but I sure hate Americans sometimes. Honestly, the level of incomprehension and inability to connect-the-dots by the electorate is breathtaking. “Fix the deficit! Lower taxes! Build more roads! Don’t touch Medicare – or Social Security – or the military! Don’t tax billionaires! Don’t tax anyone! But give me more services and benefits and entitlements! AND CAKE!!! I WANT MORE CAKE TO SHOVE INTO MY GAPING CAKEHOLE!! MORE, MORE, ALWAYS MORE! NOM, NOM, NOM, NOM…”

I think before people are allowed to vote, they should have to pass the same written test that Jeopardy! uses to choose contestants. Or maybe just the same written test that immigrants must pass to become citizens of the United States. Or maybe just providing the correct answer to “2 + 2 = ?”
